One of the greatest hurdles for many new entrepreneurs regarding technology is lack of knowledge of its effected use for business growth.

In an era where information is king, it is of paramount importance that you learn how to leverage technology to your advantage.  The sooner you are able to do that, the better chances you’ll have of beating business rivals and making your small business grow.

When You Spend Money on Technology, Think of It as an Investment and not as Cost

Most small business owners tend to think of technology only as something they don’t need to spend money on unless they really have to.  This is a big mistake!

If you want to become the owner of a successful and thriving small business enterprise, you need to re-evaluate your priorities and start thinking of technology as an investment that can help you take your business to the next level.

Investing in and leveraging technology can help you save money and time, and allows your business to develop and grow.

Use a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Product

Instead of simply relying on Microsoft Outlook as the main tool for profiling or targeting your customers, learn to use a legitimate CRM.

While e-mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes are extremely well serviced by Microsoft Outlook, you should look to CRM products for gathering and analyzing data that will help you to improve your products and services.

When a customer chats with you, buys from you, or even returns a product, a real CRM product can help you obtain this information in order to utilize the data and to analyze market performance and to learn more about your customers.

Take Advantage of Web 2.0 Technology

Web 2.0 is being used by social media tools such as FaceBook, LinkedIn, and MySpace.  It is a technology that allows business owners and their customers to connect with each in an interactive manner.

Bear in mind that this is not the place to give your sales pitch. Instead, use Web 2.0 technology to share your insights with others, upload videos, and post comments.  The idea is to have fruitful discussions with your customers as well as with each other while allowing you to talk openly about your products and services.

The way to do this is to have your own website as well as your own online communications.  Create an e-mail newsletter to reach clients and potential customers.  Build a blog that encourages even more discussions about your products.

Mobile Solutions

If you have remote employees and/or if your staff travels frequently, then mobile technology is the way to go.  This enables all of you to stay in contact with each other and access your office wherever you are.

Leveraging mobile technology allows you "to take your office with you" and access e-mail, files, and faxes anytime, anywhere.

Keep abreast with the latest technology and determine whether or not it could help boost your business volume.  Invest in technology that allows you to serve your clients better through customer service follow-up programs.

Keeping in touch with your customers is always a great thing even if your product is a one-time purchase.  Customer referrals can go a long way in acquiring new customers.

The effective use of the latest technology can most definitely help to succeed with your small business!
